    China is currently navigating an increasingly complex energy landscape. Rising energy costs are driven by surging demand across industries, compounded by geopolitical tensions and fluctuating global energy markets. This is further exacerbated by China\u2019s reliance on coal, which still accounts for over 56% of the country\u2019s energy consumption. Despite significant strides in renewable energy, coal remains a dominant force, creating challenges for achieving China\u2019s ambitious carbon neutrality goals.
    China’s \u201c1+N\u201d framework, designed to guide the country toward peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, pushes for accelerated investments in clean energy, decarbonization technologies, and enhanced energy efficiency.
    The challenge lies in balancing this transition while maintaining energy security, especially during peak demand seasons, where coal plants still act as a fall back.

    Last August, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), together with relevant parties, has revised and formed the draft of “Measures for the Review of Energy Conservation of Fixed Asset Investment Projects (Draft for Soliciting Opinions)” on the basis of in-depth research and extensive consultation.
    The \u201cmeasure\u201d aims to establish a new mechanism for the comprehensive transformation of energy consumption control to carbon emissions control, strengthen the management of energy consumption and carbon emissions of fixed asset investment projects, promote energy conservation and energy efficiency improvement, and actively and steadily promote carbon neutrality and carbon peaking.
    To address these issues, industries, cities and even individual companies are urged to adopt more efficient, low-carbon solutions while exploring green energy sources like solar, wind, and hydrogen.
    Additionally, fluctuating electricity prices, driven by market reforms and energy shortages, add complexity to operational costs, making energy efficiency critical for businesses.
