It starts from a deep assessment to evaluate the actual entity’s carbon footprint, considering all Greenhouse gasses.
It should be done a comprehensive evaluation including services and goods consumed within the entity but produced elsewhere.
Then, starting from this baseline scenario, the climate-based strategies and green technologies will be selected to minimize the carbon footprint through ad-hoc solutions taking into account the local context and economic sustainability.
All possible integrated solutions should be identified and selected to build a carbon free city/area/company. They include “passive” CO2 industrial and urban innovative setups.
In this step, it is essential to rethink the design of the entity energy patterns as well as the entire planning process, from its earliest stages through the project completion.
Finally, to achieve decarbonization, residual emissions are offset through emission trading schemes such as investments in renewables, passive buildings and other carbon-neutral solutions outside the location.
As a result, a region, a city, a district or a company HQs is transformed into a “virtual carbon sink”.
The Jiashan Sino Italian District Masterplan, developed by a group of our partners, leaded by Progetto CMR, is a concrete example about the implementation of the 3 Steps method to reach true carbon neutrality in a district urban district.
